If you just got engaged – congrats!! What an exciting time for you!
As a Kansas City Engagement and Wedding Photographer – I’ve come up with a few tips for newly engaged couples!!
Enjoy Your Engagement
Congratulations, you’re engaged! Our most important tip today is this one – enjoy your engagement. Before jumping into wedding planning mode, take time as an engaged couple to celebrate this excited time in your lives! Before even announcing the news to your family and friends, celebrate this new adventure with your fiancé by doing something fun together! Enjoy these moments to the fullest, and then share the exciting news!
Set Priorities
Decide early on which wedding elements are important to you both as a couple. Rank your wedding priorities with your partner from top to bottom. From there with the following step – setting a budget, you already have an idea on which wedding elements are most important that you want to spend a little more money towards.
Set a Budget First
Setting a budget is the most important first step to planning your wedding. Although it may be difficult to discuss, it’s vital in determining all of your other wedding details. Be sure to set your wedding budget before you event start to look at venues or vendors.
Determine Your Guest List Early
After having the budget talk, the next step is determining how many guests you are going to invite to your wedding. Your guest list will influence every other wedding decision, so it’s best to determine your guest list early on. First, sit down with your fiancé to have a serious discussion about what size of wedding you would like to have. It’s very important to determine the size of your wedding before getting too far into creating the guest list.
Tour Venues Together
We think it’s important for couples to tour and choose their wedding venue together. Nailing down a venue is one of the most important decisions when it comes to your wedding. Be sure to bring your fiancé along and to get his input along the way!
Hire A Wedding Planner & Photographer Early
Hire a wedding planner and photographer early on in your wedding planning process. Most couples book their wedding planner and photographer right after they book a venue. Doing this early on will allow you to relax more and enjoy the process of planning! When searching for and choosing the right planner and photographer for you, make sure that you hire someone that fits well with both of you.
Get Your Partner Involved
Involve your partner in important wedding decisions. Allow your fiancé to take charge in the things that mean the most in his perspective – whether that be his wedding ensemble, booking the DJ or band and choosing the music, or planning the honeymoon!
Communication is Everything
And finally, our most important tip – communication. It’s so important in life, but even more so when it comes to your engagement and throughout the wedding planning process. After a stressful day, let your partner know that you are there for them and that they are loved and appreciated! Communication is the foundation as you plan to start your forever together!
